There really isn't much I can say about myself other than what I brought up already below. Regardless, I shall commence rambling.

My Jungian personality is an INFP (Introverted, iNtuitive, Feeling, Perceiving). In short, I am an idealist and a dreamer, who at many times gets lost in his head conjuring a scattered thought process that can rarely be focused.

Theatre is the foundation of my life, as I would certainly not the person I am today without it. I love the contagious adrenaline from performing, the ever-changing atmosphere of working backstage, and the challenging precision of working sewing equipment and hearing that machine hum. It's something I want to continue with in my adult life and let it help me achieve my closeted desire for voice acting.

Current Residence: The Planet Jendell, Whittier CA
deviantWEAR sizing preference: Medium
Print preference: Glossy for photos, standard white for everything else.
Favourite genre of music: Classic Rock, Metal, String Instruments, basically anything but rap and hip-hop.
Favourite photographer: Peter Parker, he gets the best pictures of Spider-Man. How does he do it!?
Favourite style of art: Anime styles
Operating System: Mac OS 10.4.11
MP3 player of choice: iTunes
Shell of choice: Blue shell=Flying Yoshi!
Wallpaper of choice: Usually something One Piece related
Favourite cartoon character: Monkey D. Luffy
Personal Quote: If you are a one trick pony, you are not the pegacorn you think you are!
Interests
There has been an ongoing debate and opinion about bringing Animes to places other than their place of origin. Once localized, they sometimes end up suffering for multiple reasons: bad voice acting, censorship, story cutting, and one often overlooked aspect: the music.

What some don't realize is that English dubs will sometimes lose their original soundtrack in favor of a more "American" sounding tune. This happens with usual in-story jingles and even changing the opening/closing sequences. This has been a constant annoyance to me, especially because among my social groups I am in a minority urging for the original music.

To me, it feels insulting on two respects:
1. It is a disservice to the original animation director (and sometimes Manga author where available if they worked in conjunction). The soundtrack is the tone that fits to their vision.

2. It is a slap in the face for the North American audience. The producers apparently think that because it is not sounding like rock and roll, rap, and hip hop, the audience will lose interest. Most North American anime fans would keep interest in their products because it is different from what they're used to. Shortcutting to make it fit a preference is like going to a Chinese Food restaurant to ask for a cheeseburger.

I take note to saying American, because when English dubs go towards NA shores, it is their distinction of being the only language with an alternate soundtrack. Of course, I may be overlooking exceptions, but that is usually how it is.

What actually set me off to having this mindset was actually watching Dragon Ball Z. Eventually I gained access to watching the Spanish Version when it used to come on Telemundo. The music immediately captivated me. I thought that it fit the mood of the show, and did not feel out of place. Seeing the original opening and closing was also a treat. One aspect about the said localizations is they actually overdub them so the songs are in the language of the release. For instance, DBZ's Cha La Head Cha La in Spanish.  I actually find this acceptable to me since it is going the extra yard for dubbing but still leaving the original product intact. I find that isn't as counterproductive as the American approach of replacing the original opening altogether with the "clip show" variety. That is something I never understood. Why change the opening/closing, if there already is an original animated sequence?

As of late, Animes have been letting the original soundtracks remain intact, since producers finally realize it is no longer necessary. In the 1970's and  80's it was more justifiable, because they wanted to make the product catch on. Among SciFi fans, Robotech is considered a classic, but among the soundtrack and censorship it was actually three unrelated shows put together: Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Calvary Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Genesis Climber MOSPEADA.  Now that has been going through great lengths to make a product work! Voltron actually did the same thing. All this is common knowledge now, but being in the age of having easier access leaves that tangent worth noting.

However, as an audience we came a long way.  Before Anime became used as the term in North America, it used to be called Japanimation.  Anime literally is an abbreviated pronunciation for animation in the Japanese language. Although, I stray from political correctness, I can honestly say that has been a better distinction to identify it. ...I still like to call it Japanimation to piss off the Weaboos! 8-3

At the risk of speaking blasphemy to concluding my rant, there are two soundtracks I actually admit to enjoying better than the original. Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie and Sonic CD (parts of it anyway). Finally hearing the original audio to Street Fighter II The Animated Movie showed me that it lacked a complete soundtrack, so there really isn't much to compare.

Sonic CD, albeit a video game (yes they have changed soundtracks too) actually had most of the soundtrack edited out since North American developers did not like the old Cyberpunk Theme to it. The bits I actually enjoyed better is the Stardust Speedway Future songs because they felt like better racing themes against Metal Sonic and the opening song (Sonic Boom sounds better than Do Anything).  The US version for Sonic CD has a good soundtrack, but once again the change is unnecessary and strays from the original vision.
